A escrita da história no IHGB no final do Império e Primeira República

Abstract

The present work has the concern of thinking about the writing of history in the end of the Empire and the First Republic in Brazil (1870-1920). To investigate the theme we chose a site of prominence to the writing of the history in this period, the Brazilian Historical and Geographical Institute (IHGB). This institute was founded in 1838 and had the function of think about the formation of the Brazilian nationality, just as the writing of the national history. Within this local, we chose seven partners of this society to analyze how they understood the national history writing, how it should be thought, articulated and realized the operation of the writing in the history of Brazil. Which methods, ways, themes, characters should compound the work of a historian. The answers for all of these questions are not unison, but have different point of views, that show a context of competitions about the past and history that should be written and taught.
