A Matemática no Trabalho do Agente Rural: Aspectos Etnomatemáticos

Abstract

In this work we analyze the content of mathematics in the professional practice of rural agents that work in the Municipality of Crato-CE and provide technical assistance and rural extension to farmers of this municipality. Starting from the investigation on the performance of the Agriculture Technician, exercising its role as Rural Agent, we observe the interaction that occurs between the Rural Agent and Rural Worker, and the mathematical elements that are present in the activities aiming for the improvement of the farmer’s work. We identify difficulties in fulfilling the tasks of Rural Agents concerning the use of mathematical content. We emphasize the necessity of studying mathematics for the Agricultural Technical profession, as well as the exchange of learning between people, and we suggest essential ways to improve the teaching of mathematics in the classroom, knowing the reality of our students and the context where they are inserted. We verify which of the mathematical contents are mostly used in rural extension work done by these agents and how the development of mathematical calculations in this practice occurs, showing clearly interdisciplinary process and pointing it as way to overcome difficulties.
